Adding a new test to the suite

Bubble Nut Wash is a social enterprise based out of Bangalore. They make environment-friendly detergents and home-care cleaning products from soapnuts. The enterprise intends to use water test kits developed by ffem to compare parameters of after-wash waste water using synthetic detergents vis-รก-vis soapnut-based detergents. When Manas, the cofounder, asked if our kit could test for Hydrogen Peroxide, I was tempted to say no. I am glad I did not, because what followed turned out to be a textbook example of how to add a new parameter to the ffem water test kit.

1 year review of ffem

ffem was registered on 6 June 2017, and today marks 1 year of ffem. Though it was completely unintentional, I find some symbolism in the fact that our founding day is the day after World Environment Day. I think that now, more than ever, monitoring environmental parameters is necessary.

Caddisfly for Lake Monitoring

The lakes in and around cities serve as the site for many functions: for citizens, for flora, fauna and for the water and waste management systems of the urban environment. In cities such as Bangalore, chemical, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries discharge their effluent waste and wastewater into lakes. Lakes are becoming waste repositories for cities.
